Subject: Inquiry Regarding PhD Program in Political Science (Public Policy Track)
Dear Professor XXX,
Greetings from Bangladesh!
I hope this message finds you well. My name is YYY, and I completed my bachelor's degree from the Department of Political Science, University of Chittagong, Bangladesh. I am very interested in the PhD program in Political Science (Public Policy Track) at West Midland University for the fall 2026 semester. I find the program very much aligned with my current degree program and my prospective doctoral research fields. While the WMU Political Science website provides all the required information for aspiring students, I have some additional queries as I prepare to apply for the doctoral program at your department.
I would be very grateful if you could kindly address the following questions to help me prepare my application:
Do I need to contact faculty in advance and discuss my PhD research interests with them before submitting my formal application?
I have also completed an MSc degree in International Politics from the University of Exeter, UK, where the medium of instruction was English. Can I get a waiver for submitting test scores like IELTS or TOEFL since my MSc degree was from the UK and entirely taught in English?
Lastly, I would like an overview of GRE scores that might be considered competitive for admission to the PhD program. I wonder whether my GRE score (3xx) is competitive enough for admission. This will also help me decide whether to retake the GRE examination.
Thank you very much for your time and assistance. I look forward to your valuable feedback on my questions.
With best regards,
ABC
